Microbial electrosynthesis (MES) is an emerging electrochemical technology currently being researched as a CO 2 sequestration method to address climate change. MES can convert from pollution or waste materials into various carbon compounds with low energy requirements using electrogenic microbes biocatalysts. However, the critical component in this technology, cathode, still needs perform more effectively than other conventional reduction methods because of poor selectivity, complex metabolism pathways microbes, and high material cost. These characteristics lead weak interactions cathode electrocatalytic activities. approaches range modification engineering new fabrication methods. Aside development, operating procedure also plays function strategy optimize production reducing costs, such hybridization integration MES. If could be realized, it would offer way utilize excess industries generate profitable commodities future replace fossil fuel-derived products.
